Prof. Chi-Ming Che [H-index: 105] obtained his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong in 1978 and 1982 respectively. After his study with Prof. Harry B. Gray at The California Institute of Technology during 1980 to 1983, he joined the Department of Chemistry of The University of Hong Kong and is presently the Zhou Guangzhao Professor in Natural Sciences and the Head of Chemistry Department. He also serves as the Directors of State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry, HKU-CAS Joint Laboratory on New Materials and Chemical Biology Centre of HKU. He is also the investigator of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory in Chemical Synthesis. He is one of the founding members and the Vice-President of The Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong. Prof. Che is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1995), a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences (2013) and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World. He received the First Class Prize of the State Natural Science Award of China (2006), the Centenary Prize of Royal Society of Chemistry (2013), Davison Lectureship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2013), Bronze Bauhinia Star presented by the Hong Kong SAR Government (2014), The 2016 Huang Yao-Zeng Organometallic Chemistry Award of the Chinese Chemical Society – Lifetime Achievement Award (2016), and Ryoji Noyori ACES Award (2016).
Prof. Che’s research interests include transition metal-promoted organic transformations; reactive metal-ligand multiple bonded complexes; inorganic photochemistry; phosphorescent materials; bioinorganic chemistry; and inorganic medicines. Over 150 Ph.D. students have successfully completed their studies at HKU under his supervision.
